Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know before your first Muay Thai class at Hitters Fight Club Toronto.

Do I need previous Muay Thai experience?

No experience is required. Our Muay Thai classes welcome complete beginners as well as experienced students. Our coaches will introduce the fundamentals and help you progress at a comfortable and appropriate pace.

What should I wear to my first class?

Wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows you to move freely, such as a T-shirt or tank top with shorts or workout leggings. Please bring a water bottle and a small towel.

Do I need my own boxing gloves?

Not for your first visit. Clean house gloves are available for first-time students. Hand wraps are strongly recommended and may be available for purchase at the gym.

Is sparring required?

No. Sparring is not required, and beginners do not participate in contact sparring during their first class. Early training focuses on technique, balance, footwork, pad work, conditioning, and controlled partner drills.

Is Muay Thai a good workout?

Yes. Muay Thai provides a challenging full-body workout that can improve cardiovascular fitness, strength, endurance, coordination, balance, mobility, and overall confidence.

Am I too old to begin Muay Thai?

Adults begin Muay Thai at many different ages. You do not need to be an experienced athlete to start. Our coaches can help you train safely and adjust your pace according to your current fitness level and goals.

Can Muay Thai help with fitness and weight management?

Muay Thai can support fitness and weight-management goals by combining cardiovascular exercise, strength, technique, and full-body movement. Results vary and are also influenced by consistency, recovery, nutrition, and other lifestyle factors.

Do you offer beginner-friendly classes?

Yes. New students are welcome, including those with no martial arts background. Our instructors explain the techniques, demonstrate the movements, and provide guidance throughout the class.

How often should a beginner train?

Many beginners start with two or three classes per week. Training consistently while allowing enough time for recovery can help you build technique, conditioning, and confidence.

Can I train to compete in Muay Thai?

Yes. Many members train recreationally, while others work toward amateur or competitive goals. Speak with the coaching team about your experience, training consistency, and whether a competition pathway is suitable for you.

What is the difference between Muay Thai and kickboxing?

Muay Thai is often called the Art of Eight Limbs because it uses punches, kicks, knees, and elbows, along with clinch techniques. Kickboxing rules and techniques vary by style but commonly place greater emphasis on punching and kicking.

Is Muay Thai useful for self-defence?

Muay Thai develops practical striking, movement, balance, distance management, awareness, and composure under pressure. No martial art can guarantee personal safety, but these skills can contribute to greater confidence and physical preparedness.
